About us
Raising Multiples.com was founded by Jennifer Davis in 2002 in
what started out as a
network of private email groups for parents of triplets and quads.
Read her story below:
When I had my triplets in
2001 I felt completely disconnected from the world. No time for a
social life, no practical way to get out and do the things I used
to. I wanted to get to know other HOM mothers who were in the same
situation. My local MOST group was made up of mothers of older
triplets, they were reluctant to accept a new mom into their fold.
I dove into online triplet forums and became very active. This
provided me a network of acquaintances, but not really any
friends. Public forums were great for getting your questions
answered, but were not very conducive to real relationships with
other HOM moms. On a whim I decide to take the issue to the online
forum I was most active on. I asked if there was anyone else with
triplets my age that might be interested in forming a private
email group. I knew in a smaller setting we could really get to
know each other, and making the groups private would mean we could
REALLY share what was going on in our lives. The response was
overwhelming, moms (and sometimes dads) were hungry for something
like this, and I had stumbled upon that desire.
Shortly after my initial post I began receiving private emails
from moms with different aged HOMs asking if I could put together
a group for them. In the midst of my excitement about my own
group, I happily agreed to set up other groups for these women so
they could experience the same kind of friendships. As I began to
set up other groups, I made a fateful decision... I would set up a
group for each and every age. I mean, if you build it they will
come - right? LOL Come they did. I posted a public message back on
the forum announcing the formation of all the other groups. Within
the first three days I received over 200 replies.
Soon I realized I could not manage all these groups myself. Each
group was its own little 'family' and deserved moderators that
were members of their particular group, members that were active
and supportive of others. I eventually recruited one moderator for
each group, and in time I decided that having two moderators for
each group was an even better idea. Now we have a strong network
of email groups and loyal members who moderate each group.
The email groups are a testimony to the friendships that have been
made, and reminder of the relationships we cannot always 'see' in
our everyday lives. If you're not in one already I hope you join
and enjoy this wonderful resource for years to come!
Although, our focus is on
email groups, I eventually came to realize that our groups could
also benefit from a formal web presence. About a year after
the email groups began I started researching this possibility.
After much planning I began to build this website... it was on a
learn-as-you-go basis since I have no formal training in this
area.
Not the flashiest website out there, but we've got the basics.
So there you have it, the
story of how we came to be! I hope you like what you see,
but most importantly, as you browse our site, I hope you make a
few new friends.
Best Wishes,
Jen Davis
